Meet Jenaya

Jenaya was born in Adelaide, a member of the Nurungaa and Kaurna mobs. During her childhood, she faced challenging circumstances as her parents struggled with addiction. As a result, she was placed into the foster care system. After going to school in Alice Springs and then moving to Melbourne to be with her mother, she again faced challenges when her mother experienced a relapse.

Jenaya was referred by Orange Door to wayss’ Emergency Youth Accommodation. There she receives support to increase her life skills, build her confidence and move towards living independently.

In her own words: “I’ve seen people come here…from the beginning of their stay until the end and…it’s just such a bittersweet thing to watch…over time they’ve just opened their wings and with these guys’ help they’ve gained their own independence and learn everyday life skills.”

“The next step for me is to actually gain full independence.”
